Having your furry friend at your wedding is becoming more and more popular and I’m here for it!
But we all know they can be a little unpredictable so I’m going to give you some handy tips if you’re thinking about including a furry guest…
Make sure you ask your venue
This is the most important. Some venues don’t allow dogs because they are, or are close to a working farm. Most venues have started to allow dogs but please just double check before bringing them.
Only have them there for the ceremony and a few photos straight after.
Why? Weddings can be very overwhelming for dogs, they are noisy and there are a lot of people. It just isn’t fair on your fur baby to be somewhere they don’t know, away from what they know, especially when you won’t be with them the entire time.
Choose someone to be their chaperone.
You don’t want them jumping on your dress or other guests so let them be with someone who they’re used to and trust to look after them while you’re busy. Alternatively you can hire someone to bring your fur-baby to come for a couple of hours. The gorgeous Rolly featured in this blog was being looked after by one of the lovely team from Ranworth Lodge Kennels. They brought him for a couple of hours before taking him to enjoy his stay with them so everyone could enjoy the wedding.
Will they be coming down the aisle?
If so tell your photographer and videographer! Tell us if someone will be walking them down or if you’re going to let them run down and hope they run to you. Always be conscious if any guests, suppliers or venue staff are allergic or afraid of dogs if you’re thinking of letting them go alone as they may run and jump on guests/suppliers. While it’s a lovely moment it’s a really hard one to photograph especially if they decide not to stick to the plan on walking straight down to you.
Bring the good treats!
Depending on what your dog loves the most bring their favourite treats or toy (maybe not the one with the squeaker!). There’s no doubt you’ll want some photos with them so bring things your photographer can use to get their attention.

I hope these tips help! If I’m photographing your wedding and your dog will be there you’ll probably find me introducing myself to your dog and giving them their own mini photoshoot…I’m sure you won’t mind.
Thank you to the best boy, Rolly and Emma & Thomas for featuring in this blog. They had the most beautiful day at Merrydale Manor in Cheshire.
